Press release by Cinema Press Club

President Era Tha Sakthivel and Secretary M P Abraham of the Cinema Press Club in a joint press release have stated as follows:

“Recently there was news in a leading daily after the arrest of an actress for prostitution. Everyone has the right to comment, conduct protest meetings and even argue that the news is wrong. They have every right to proceed legally against the newspaper. It is their democracy. But at the same time it is not correct fro them to charge all the journalists in a defaming way in public. We the members of Cinema Press Club vehemently condemn the attitude of these people. On 7-10-2009, a protest meeting was held by the South Indian Actors Federation. Actors Vivek, Sathyaraj and Surya have spoken in defamatory way against journalists. This is most condemnable. It is long prevailing practice to file a defamatory case in the Court of law, but this is the first time a journalist has been arrested for publishing a news. We consider this is illegal. Hence we request the arrested journalist to be released immediately.”
